First introduced in 1986 by the United States Mint, the American Silver Eagle was authorized under the Liberty Coin Act of 1985 and serves as the official silver bullion coin of the United States.
The obverse features the iconic “Walking Liberty” design by Adolph A. Weinman, originally used on the U.S. half dollar from 1916 to 1947. This historic design remains one of the most recognizable images in American coinage.
The 2026 American Silver Eagle MS70 proudly continues Weinman’s artistic legacy. The obverse portrays Lady Liberty walking toward the rising sun, draped in the American flag. She carries oak and laurel branches in her left arm while extending her right hand forward, symbolizing hope, freedom, and the enduring strength of the nation.
Reverse Design
The reverse of the 2026 American Silver Eagle NGC MS70 First Day of Issue coin features the modern bald eagle design created by Emily Damstra, introduced in 2021.
Shown in left-profile relief, the American bald eagle descends with wings spread, grasping an oak branch in its talons as it prepares to land. The design highlights the natural power and beauty of the United States’ national bird.
Surrounding inscriptions include “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” along with the coin’s weight, purity, and denomination “1 OZ. FINE SILVER – ONE DOLLAR.”
